SARA CASTELLANO

Hello! I’m a designer focusing on architectural design and planning. My goal is to create human centric design, collaborating with the users throughout the design process.

I believe architecture should be for people to enhance their experience of the environment.

  • Currently based in Boston as an architectural designer with experience in the higher education, science and tech, and healthcare architecture fields.

  • Service Design focuses on the current experience of users, analyzing the qualitative and quantitative data to inform how it can be improved and synthesizing data to develop solutions.

  • With a basis in both architecture and service design, I aspire to help my community by asking questions and listening to provide tailored solutions. Current focuses center around community development in Oak Grove studying food waste. I am involving myself within communities to develop relationships and collaboration.

  • Past experiences in media such as collage, charcoal, and digital media. Currently experimenting with lithography and book making!

MY PROCESS…

Hand-drawn diagram of a green roof system with an extensive green roof, shallow soil profile, and habitat creation in water, highlighting gradient of ecology and an ambient 3D landscape.
A miniature model of a modern building or house with a person figure sitting on the steps, set in snowy terrain under a dark sky.
A black and white collage of various scenes of African American people engaging in daily life activities, set against the background of a large house with a porch, stairs, and multiple windows.
A parking lot with several parked cars, surrounded by brick buildings, with a tree on the left and some industrial equipment on the right. There's a modern, illuminated structure above one of the buildings.
  • What is the problem we are trying to solve? How does the system currently work? These are all initial questions I ask when starting out on a design journey. Sketching and Analytical Data have been my favorite tools to solving this question.

  • What is the ideal solution? Developing a list of goals to work towards in design. Collaging and visual media are my tools of choice to answer this question/.

  • How do we get from the current to the ideal? This is often the toughest question to answer, yet the most exciting. I use a combination of sketching, diagramming, and modelling to answer this question.
